Follow-up may help keep patients motivated to stay on treatment

  • Reassess symptom improvement as early as 1 month,1 at 3 months, and 6 months
    • Emphasize any improvement, even if modest
    • Use the Pelvic Pain & Urgency/Frequency (PUF) Questionnaire, O’Leary Sant IC Symptom and Problem Index, and the ELMIRON® (pentosan polysulfate sodium) Symptom Journal to track symptoms during treatment
    • Reiterate that ELMIRON® works gradually and may require 3 to 6 months of continuous therapy
    • Reinforce the importance of lifestyle and diet changes
